I have been having back pain since around 2007, and it has increasingly gotten worse. I've been in quite a bit of pain but I tend to just suck it up. Last Friday I had an MRI done since my physical therapy has not helped me at all. Well I got the test results from my mri. As the nurse was telling me what was wrong I was kind of freaking out. She said, "I'm going to spell out what you have but don't go online and look it up. You'll freak yourself out." How do you expect me not to now?! Ends up, I have what's called a syrinx which is a rare, fluid-filled neuroglial cavity within the spinal cord. It is roughly 4cm in length and 4mm in diameter. I'm glad I have a reason for my pain and the stiffness in my back and shoulders. Now I have to wait for a call from the referral department to get an appointment to see a neurosurgeon. I might have to have surgery but there could be other options, just have to wait and see. I might be slightly freaking out but I hope this brings me some relief. I can't go on with this pain everyday. Hoping for the best.
